A fun five-some of Chi Chi Birds adorn this pottery ashtray by Sascha Brastoff of California, hand painted in an off-white background with tans, browns and a hint of yellow for contrast. The tray measures 8.5 inches in length, 6 inches in width (at its widest end) and is 1 3/8 inches tall at its upturned edges. The piece, while in good condition does have some flaws; mostly on the bottom in the form of discoloration and a yellowish substance that I cannot identify. The top does have some light staining (perhaps from a cigarette?) and a small rough spot near one of cigarette / cigar wells. It is marked Sascha B. on the top and has his Rooster logo on the bottom, identifying is as post 1953. Despite its minor flaws the ashtray is still a Brastoff beauty that’s sure to bring a smile with its fat birdies, bird foot tracks and atomic, amoeba-like shape.
