A rare and antique Chatterbox Book of Birds with a pair of colorful Macaws on the cover. Let me first state that the condition of this hardbound book is very poor with the spine disengaged from the center, the front cover stained and wrinkled, and some of the illustrations (12 to be exact) colored in by a child (and some not well) long ago. But the bird stories inside are rather interesting (given from a British Victorian point of view) and the illustrations so detailed that we thought you might enjoy it anyhow. If this intrigues, read on. Copyrighted in 1909 by Dana Estes & Company the book features 90 pages of one page bird stories with a full page black & white illustration opposite it. There is a full page colored illustration opposite the title page named The Owl's Nest and the pages are of thicker stock than modern tomes. Chatterbox measures 9.75 inches by x 7 3/8 inches and one page has a small tear at the bottom while the rest have age related darkening and some disengagement from the spine. The stories range from those of Eagles, Pigeons, Wrens and Geese to Peacocks, Puffins and Cranes; there's even one about an African Grey Parrot with an awesome illustration (not colored in). The pictures and stories within would be wonderful framed or otherwise preserved. Again, the outside condition isn't great but the stories and most of the prints inside are......
