Elegant and intriguing this rare, antique bobbin holder from Victorian Europe is a Cockatoo and sewing lover's dream. Crafted of brass with glass eyes and wonderful detail the historical use would have been bobbins on the spindles, candles in the cups (when lit they would break the thread), various sewing items in the tray, and the Parrot's head would house needles or matches when opened. These days the piece would make an incredible candelabra and jewelry / pocket watch stand (a hook rests between the bird's feet) with a presence on your dresser that can't be duplicated. It measures a nice 13 1/8" in height and is 6" in diameter at the tray with a nice weight (almost 3 pounds) for its size. The piece is unmarked and in good condition for its age with some tarnishing, a tiny bend underneath one of the cups, and the three balled feet that used to be on the underside of the base are there no more (we had this piece once before that's how we know, you wouldn't miss them). As an aside, the Parrot's head does not lie flush against its breast but this is original. Weighty and wonderful and the perfect blending of useful and unique, Avian and antique. You will adore it.
