A rare pewter rendering from 1980's Germany featuring a Ring Ouzel Thrush (a European mountain version of the common Blackbird) perched atop a rock. The piece is affixed to a pewter base and a brass plaque naming the bird in German, Latin and English completes the tableau. Well designed and hand painted the bird measures 1.75" tall while the base is 3". Besides the plaque it is also marked "Nach Zeichnung von John Gould (1804-1881) Modellert und Gegossen Haefelin - Zinnoffizin" which translates to "'After a drawing by John Gould (1804-1881) modeled and cast by Haefelin-Zinnoffizin" and has a "WE" stamped on the side. Originally issued at about $30.00 (40 DM) in the early 80's you'll find the miniature to be in good condition with a little rust on the plaque that looks as though it may have been repositioned in the past. Be sure to search for others in the series as well if you have an interest.
