With a whimsical crest and a colorful coat, this vintage Cockatoo pottery planter from California is sure to catch your eye and steal your heart. Originally made in the 1940s or 50s to work and not just be a pretty face, the planter features a hole on the side for the discreet watering of plants. It's obvious it did work in its past as mineral deposits can be seen along the edge in front and on the back side (see pics). Measures 7 7/8 inches to the top of the Parrot's head and is 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. Aside from a tiny, pinhead flake on the water spout and a small rub on the wing tip and middle of the crest, the planter is in good condition and without chips or cracks. Marked 412, Made in USA along the bottom edge. Not just for plants, this fanciful fellow would make a great cache for wallets and the like on a dresser or be a sentinel of soap in the bath. He IS looking for a career change, after all, why not put him to work?
