A vintage beauteous beaded bag from Belgium, hand made by Hilde Walborg and featuring a bird in flight on both ends. Bronze in color and beaded in nature it is an evening handbag of the highest caliber that has a subtle sparkle when the light hits it, and was originally owned by Babs Claire (more on her later). It is made of material both without and within (save for the beads, faux pearl eyes and metal clasp) and has a side pocket on the inside, which bears a "Made in Belgium by hand, Walborg” label. The purse is of the clutch variety in an envelope style, measuring approx. 10.5 inches x 5.5 inches. The beads are loose giving the purse interesting movement, perhaps original (my guess) perhaps not. The material they are attached to seems fragile – fine for special occasions and parties – out for tossing tournaments. The top right corner is a little darker than the rest of the pocketbook as is the bottom left corner (see pics) but due to the coloring you REALLY have to look for it and that’s in a strong light (at night it would NEVER be noticed). The inside is very, very clean; it appears to have been little used, if at all. For you history buffs: Original Walborg designs were crafted in Italy, France in Belgium in the 1940s and 50s. This bag's previous owner was a 1940s Broadway actress named Barbara Barker (stage name Babs Claire) who was a lead June Taylor dancer on the Jackie Gleason, Milton Berle & Jimmy Durante TV shows in the early 1950s. In the 1970s she appeared on TV and in magazine & newspapers as a character model. The purse was purchased from her estate several years ago.
