What a great find this is! From right here in the heart of farm country comes this fantastic early "Mother Hubbard" wooden washboard in wonderful condition for it's age.
This washboard had a patent because of it's unique grooved rollers that would roll in opposite directions to get the laundry cleaner. This washboard still retains the advertising on one side of the board.
These boards were made in Mendota, IL in the 1920's. It measures 21.5" x 12.25". There is some age appropriate wear on this piece, but it's still completely intact and has a fabulous primitive visual appeal. The authentic, natural finish shows that it was actually used by great granny in the old washtub! A true piece of American history from the farm.
Overall, this is one honey of a washboard ~ these are getting very hard to find in any condition, so if you collect washboards or just love primitives, don't pass this one by! It's a beauty!
