This exceptionally large and beautiful antique glass dresser box or jewelry casket was made by C. F. Monroe as part of their Wavecrest line. While there are many examples of these beautiful glass boxes and jars available, it is very rare to find a piece as large and beautifully decorated as this one. It is in a pattern called the Helmschmied Swirl after one of the artists that worked for Monroe. It is beautifully decorated in an enamel design of flowers and leaves in a free and flowing design that covers the entire box. The quality of the decoration is exceptional showing a high degree of talent and skill on the part of the artist who decorated it. It was difficult to capture the subtle use of color in the pictures. The box is mounted in brass and has ornate feet. Amazingly, it still retains its original satin lining which is still in surprisingly good condition. These are usually badly damaged, or missing.
It measures 7 1/4 inches across and it is 6 1/4 inches high. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs to the glass. The brass mounts have lost much of the original gilt finish and there are some very small hairline fissures in the enamel on one of the flowers as can be seen in the pictures. The satin lining has a couple of discolored spots and the catch does not snap closed (though I think that this could be adjusted).
