This is a beautiful antique Victorian Mizpah pin or brooch in 9K rose gold. It has Birmingham hallmarks for 9K gold and the year 1901. This pin was made by Sydenham Brothers and has their mark S Bros. They were in operation through the later part of the 19th and early part of the 20th century. An advertisement from 1913 describes them as makers of diamond and gem set jewelry.
Mizpah pins were often given to sweethearts, mothers or sisters when their male relatives were going to be away from them. As you can see, the pin has the bible quotation 'The Lord watch between me & thee when we are absent one from another'.
The pin measures just under 2 inches by about 1/2 inch at the widest point. It is in very nice condition. The original catch has been replaced by a rollover safety catch.
