This is a lovely vintage porcelain brooch made using the pate sur pate technique. It depicts a shepherdess in white on a blue background. While it is unmarked it is most likely from the Limoges region of France and dates to the early part of the 20th century.
Pate-sur-pate is a French term which means "paste on paste". It is a type of porcelain decoration in which a design is created by applying layers of white slip (liquid clay) with a brush to the unfired porcelain base.
This oval pin measures about 1 3/4 inches by 1 1/2 inches. It is in very good condition with some wear to the back. The trombone catch works but is a little loose.
