This is a beautiful antique sterling silver locket decorated with delicate guilloche enamel and featuring the crest or coat of arms of a university or sorority. The border of the locket is white guilloche and there are little blue flowers painted on each corner. The center is black enamel and the coat of arms is mounted in the middle of this. The locket is suspended from a black cord and there is a little slide on the cord which is also enamel decorated. There is no catch, it is intended to go over the head. It is marked Sterling on the back of the locket and it dates to around 1910. The frames to hold a picture in place are present and there is celluloid on one side that would go over the picture. There is also an ornate oval object on one side that I don't know the function of.
The cord is about 26 inches long and the locket measures about 1 1/2 inches by 7/8 inches. It is in very nice condition. There is some patina on the silver which could be polished off if desired. There are two dimples on the back and also some light scratches on the silver. The catch on the locket works as it should.
