This exquisite Victorian cameo is carved from angel skin coral and is set in a 10K gold frame entwined with tiny seed pearls. The cameo depicts the goddess Diana (or Artemis) as indicated by the crescent moon in her hair. She is carved in very high relief and the carving is very skilled and detailed. The coral is a very pale pink - almost white. The cameo is bezel set and surrounded by a twisted frame entwined with tiny seed pearls strung on fine wire. There is a bale at the top which swivels. The setting is unmarked, but tests for 10K gold. It looks as if there was once a pin back on the piece which has been removed.
The pendant measures about 1 1/2 inches by 1 1/8 inches. It is in very good condition. There are some very faint stress lines across the surface of the cameo. They are very faint and do not go through. As noted, the pin back has been removed. The setting needs to be cleaned, but I have been hesitant to do this due to the fragile nature of the pearls.
