This is a beautiful antique Japanese Meiji era footed cloisonne jar decorated with a bird of paradise design, butterflies and yin-yang designs on the lid. The predominating colors are blue turquoise and amber with pink highlights. The beautiful enamel work is continued onto the underside of the jar. It incorporates the technique of using metal powders to give a 'glitter' effect to the enamel as can be seen in the background surrounding the bird design.
It measures about 5 inches by 5 inches and the opening is about 2 1/4 inches across. There is some enamel loss to the inside of the shoulder of the jar which I can feel, but which cannot be seen. The finial on the lid is a little loose. Otherwise it is in lovely condition.
