This is a lovely antique Victorian darning egg with a repousse sterling silver handle and an ebonized wood egg. It is monogrammed on one side of the handle VGB and it is marked Sterling B 40 on one side of the handle. Darning eggs were a standard part of a Victorian sewing kit. They were used to repair holes in socks and stockings.
It measures 7 inches by about 1 1/2 inches. It is in very good condition with some light signs of wear and a very small dent on the handle near the monogram.
