This fun find is a Personalized 1940 New York World's Fair Pennant. It has the name "Colls" embroidered on it.
It is navy blue felt and features the famous symbols of the fair, the Trylon and Perisphere. It also sports the caption of the fair "The World of Tomorrow".
This type of pennant was offered at The Fair with the option of having it personalized on the spot. This pennant is embroidered "Colls". Our research indicates this is a nickname that refers to Collingswood High School in Collingswood, New Jersey. We are also offering in our shop a pinback button from the "Colls High News", and these pieces were found together. We think perhaps a student reporter attended the World's Fair and wrote about it for the school paper (but that's a guess).
It measures about 8 ½" along the bottom edge.
Very Good Condition: it has age, but has been cared for, with no fading, stains or tack holes.
We are so pleased to offer a collection of vintage World's Fair items, and hope you'll look through our shop to see the assortment!
