Papier Mache Double Pincushion Bust, ca. 1960s.
This bust is hand painted and features the face of a beautiful woman with large brown eyes and a tiny pink mouth as well as pale pink on her cheeks. Her full, bouffant hairstyle is accentuated with a moulded gold-colored bow in the front and the tie in the back.
The 2 pincushions are mounted on the sides of her hair, above where her ears would be. They are both stuffed gold velour fabric. The base is covered with thin, gold colored tissue paper that is quite fragile.
It is unsigned and is about 7 1/2” tall. The base measures about 3 1/8” by 2 7/8”.
Condition: no cracks or large chips or losses; original pincushions; the fabric has faded and shows signs of use, with dark spots from tarnished metal pins; minor scratches and paint loss to the surface and some loss to the crinkled paper around the neck.
This is a fun piece that would look great with a collection and it can still be used! It is large enough to display a couple prized vintage brooches and something fun from the same era would be ideal. This pincushion would be a groovy gift!
