Beaded and Enameled Match Box Stand with Attached Ashtray Base.
This lovely piece is unmarked but it has the appearance of a Nippon era item. It is an upright matchbox holder with side cutouts for the strikers on the box to be available for use. The holder sits on a rectangular, flat base with slightly upturned edges. It has a white glaze background with a gold trim on the top edge, around the side openings and the base ashtray rim. A rich evergreen color with heavy white beading outlines the top and rim and extends into the hand painted floral design as stylized leaves. The white flowers are heavily enameled and the centers of the purple flowers are golden yellow enameling with gold accents. The soft greens and purples complete the design.
It is unmarked, stands about 2 ¾" tall and the base measures about 4" by 3".
Excellent Condition: no crazing, cracks, nicks or chips; there is some wear to the gold trim, retaining about 70%; little to no loss on the enameling or beading.
This is a stunning little piece. It would easily fit on a vanity, a corner shelf, or just about anywhere else in the home or office. Don't miss the opportunity to expand your collection or purchase an ideal gift for a favorite collector!
