Burgess and Leigh Flow Blue Dresden Platter.
This beautiful platter has a pure white background and a lovely, simple design incorporating swags of leaves with curlicues and scrolls. The slightly upturned rim has a molded scalloped edge as well as molded scrolls and curlicues. There are remnants of gold trim on the molded scrolls, although the pattern is lovely even without much of the gold remaining. The Dresden pattern is not overly difficult to find, making this a fine choice of pattern to assemble a dinnerware service. It is elegant but not ostentatious!
It measures 15 ½" by 11 ¾" on top and 1 ¾" high to the top of the rim and it weighs about 3 ¾ pounds. It is marked Burgess and Leigh, Burslem, Semi-Porcelain, England, Dresden; Rd. No. 272767; B. It also has a blue 3 and a raised, molded mark with the registry number and it is circa 1896.
Condition: no cracks, nicks, chips, cracks or crazing. There are some minimal, shallow use scratches but they do not detract. The gold decoration is nearly completely gone.
This is a beautiful, functional example of Flow Blue. It can be a stand out piece with white dinnerware, coordinate with other Flow Blue patterns and pieces or serve as an important serving piece in the Dresden pattern. Don't miss the opportunity to add a functional and pretty piece to your collection or purchase an ideal gift for a favorite collector!
