Red Block Beveled Buttons Ruby Stained Open Sugar Bowl.
This piece has a bulbous barrel shape with two handles and unfortunately, it has no cover. The geometric pattern of hexagonal `buttons' is highlighted by a ruby stain, as are the rims. The bottom has a nice moulded star.
It is unmarked, made by any number of possible glass houses, since this was a popular pattern and was copied. The possible manufacturers include Doyle & Company and U.S. Glass, circa 1880's – 1890's. It measures about 3 1/2" across the rim, 3 1/2" across the foot, and about 4 1/4" tall.
Condition: no cloudiness, chips, nicks or cracks. The ruby stain design has some wear and scratches, retaining about 98.5%. One handle has a small `dip' in the glass, likely a manufacturing flaw from the mould. The foot has shelf wear commensurate with its age.
This is a lovely example of ruby stained EAPG and it would be a terrific addition to any collection! Terrific for use or display, any collector would be happy to own this.
