Hand Crafted Hammered Copper Covered Cigarette Box.
This beautiful box has a rectangular shape with canted sides, so the base is smaller than the top. The rim is straight and the folded edge of the cover fits perfectly. The bottom and lid are each crafted from one piece of copper, and the lid has two curled pieces attached for the handle. The cover is hammered and the base is not. It has a wonderful, warm patina, and is circa 1940.
It is unmarked and measures about 4 1/8" by 5 1/2" at the rim and it is 1 3/4" tall at the rim.
Condition: no breaks or dents; the original construction is sound; corners on the cover were never soldered and have a tiny bit of separation but nothing to detract; some verdigris which we have not cleaned because some prefer that it stay.
This is a delightful box that would look great on any desk or table and it would serve well as a candy dish!
