Vintage World Mission Lucite Moonglow Rosary Beads Original Case Paperwork ca 1951
Vintage World Mission Lucite Moonglow Rosary Beads in Original Case with Paperwork.
The focal point of this complete rosary set is a multicolor Lucite moonglow rosary, with each different color decade representing a different continent, or mission field, of the world. Also included is the original clear plastic case with gold lettering on top and the paperwork explaining the origin and meaning of the rosary.
The set was created by Archbishop Fulton Sheen of New York, who was a Director of The Society For The Propogation of The Faith. The idea was introduced on Bishop Fulton’s radio program in 1951. He requested his listeners embrace the world in prayer, and honor the work of missions around the world. We believe this set to be one of the earliest iterations of this rosary.
The centerpiece depicts Mary on one side and Jesus with the Sacred Heart on the reverse.
It is unmarked.
The crucifix measures about 2” tall, and when fully extended, the rosary measures about 18”.
Condition: no missing components; no chipped or cracked beads; the plastic box and paperwork have yellowed with age; lettering on the box cover shows wear and loss; finish on beads is good; minor use scratches; original patina.
This is a beautiful vintage set of rosary beads and they would be a wonderful gift to a Catholic Bride, First Communion or Confirmation celebrant, as well as anyone who appreciates the rich color and unique construction!
