Antique Ladies of the Golden Eagle Grand Temple Trenton NJ Fraternal Goldtone Award Medal.
This 2-part medal consists of a bar with a celluloid center, stamped metal frame and red and purple silk ribbons. Dangling from the top piece is a large round celluloid medallion in a decorative stamped metal fame. It does not have a built in pin, so it would have been sewn to a garment or pinned using a loose pin.
The bar on top states Trenton, N.J.; September 5th, 1904 and the medallion states Grand Temple of New Jersey around the logo that states Ladies of The Golden Eagle; Faith, Hope, Charity. The Knights of The Golden Eagle is a fraternal organization that was founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 1872 for the purpose of assisting its members in finding employment. Membership peaked in the 1920s and the group is apparently no longer operating.
The back has an original paper tag sewn to the ribbon with Whitehead Company information visible, as well as N.J. and the word Advertising. The back of the medallion is similar to the back of a picture frame, with a disk held in place by foldover tabs. It states W. H. Co., Newark, N.J., Pat. Appl’d.
It measures about 3 ¼” across the ribbon and 1 ¾” across the medallion. Overall height is about 2 ¾” tall.
Condition: no bends, dents or breaks; some fraying of the ribbons; minor age discoloration, fading and surface wear – none of which detract.
