A Georgian mourning brooch. Circa 1820. Made of 15ct gold. The obverse decorated with a fine black champleve enamelled centre ( enclosing a glazed compartment set with hair ) framed by a chased work border. The reverse centred by a hinged glazed compartment surrounded by an engraved inscription ' Thomas Knight ob 30 Apr : 1820 Obt ,,51'. Steel pin and attached 9ct gold safety chain. Measurements, length 1 3/8" ( 3cm ), width just over 1" ( 2.6 cm ), depth ( excluding pin ) 3/8" just over 1 cm. Condition, Very Good. The gold has been acid tested as 15ct gold. A very good quality late Georgian mourning brooch.
