A Victorian brooch. Made of 15 ct gold. Cartouche shaped with an attached pendant drop, decorated with engraved leaves and scrollwork and applied wirework detail set with garnets and chrysoberyls. Circa 1855. Measurements, length 2 1/8" ( 5.5 cm ), width 1 7/8" ( 4.6 cm ), depth about 1/2" ( 1.4 cm ). Condition, Very Good. The gold has been acid tested as 15 ct gold. A good example of an 1850s brooch. The reverse side of the top of the brooch has a wire hook which was probably used to attach the brooch to a necklace of the same design so it could be used as a pendant to the necklace.
