A Victorian Mourning brooch. Made of 9ct cased gold. Cartouche shaped, the obverse set with a glazed compartment containing a lock of hair surrounded by a seed pearl border framed by a black enamel and repousse scrollwork decorated border. Circa 1845. Measurements, length 2 1/16" ( 5.2 cm ), width ( just under ) 1 3/4" ( 4.3 cm ), depth 5/8" just under ( 1.5 cm ). Condition, very good. The gold has been acid tested as 9ct gold. A good example of an 1840s mourning brooch.
