A late Victorian pendant-brooch, of frost pattern design, made of 15ct gold with a silver front set with diamonds and a diamond set suspension loop. This pendant can also be worn as a brooch, the suspension loop folds away under the brooch pin ( see 3rd photograph ). Circa 1895. Measurements, north to south ( including suspension loop ) just under 1 5/8" ( 3.9 cm ). East to west 1 1/4" ( 3.2 cm ). Weight, approximately 11.5 grammes. The gold has been acid tested as 15ct gold. Multifunctional pieces of jewellery such as this were very popular in the late 19th century. This pendant- brooch also has a screw on the reverse into which a special double hair pin ( now missing )could be attached, turning it into an hair ornament as well.
