A Gold & Enamel Mourning Brooch, Circa 1835.
A 15ct gold mourning brooch, champleve enamelled in black with a scrolling floral design. The centre set with a silver & rose diamond forget me not flower. Glass bezel to the back containing woven hair. Engraved on the back; Sus n Gardner, Banbury. With a steel pin. Circa 1835. Measurements, 1, 1/8" by 1, 3/8". Condition, very good. The gold has been assay tested as 15ct. This is a fine example of an 1830s English mourning brooch, this type of black enamelling was particularly popular in the 1830s.
