This circa 1840 Sandwich glass whale oil lamp has nothing to apologize for. Clean and clear with no chips, cracks or discolorations, only good honest wear on the bottom of this base. This lamp is flint glass and has a nice ring when flecked with a finger. An example of this lamp is in Kaiser and Barlow's whale oil lamp book on fig. 229 and is called the "Pressed Diamond Point with Hexagonal Base". Has the typical Sandwich wafer between the font and base. This is how the two pieces were joined. Original brass fine line collar. Whale oil was a popular lamp fuel in the era before kerosene.
