This is an absolutely breathtaking example of the timeless Bohemian garnet jewelry produced in the 1870’s to the 1880’s. This twelve point star, 3 layered Pyrope deep ruby red garnets pin/pendant is an example of Victorian Mourning jewelry worn by Queen Victoria after Prince Albert’s death.
Mourning jewelry was worn in memory either of a deceased loved one or as a sentimental reminder of a lover. The hair would be concealed in small compartments at the back of jewels behind a rock crystal case.
“Pyrope Garnets Czech Republic - The Pyrope has the deepest fiery red color of the entire garnet family. This unique Garnet is world renown as the famous Bohemian Garnet and has been mined from the mountains of Bohemia for over 600 years.” Black Cat Relics
This piece of mourning jewelry can either be worn as a pin or can be worn as a pendant.
SIZE: The pin/pendant measures 1 ¾” in height and 1 ½” in width and ½” in depth.
CONDITION: This pin/pendant is in beautiful antique condition. All the stones are present and secure. The clasp is in good working condition. The pendant loop is secure. The glass compartment is secure and intact. It opens nicely and the glass has no cracks.
This is a piece of history and would be such a stunning piece to wear and enjoy.
