For your delight, here is a stunning vintage natural blue sapphire & diamond brooch and earrings set, that can also be worn as a pendant and earrings set!
Set with an array of dazzling, vibrant royal blue sapphires and older single-cut diamonds, this beautiful set, hallmarked '585' (14kt), can be worn together or apart to dress up or accent your outfit of choice! Containing 11 round and oval-cut sapphires, the brooch holds 3.43ct round and 1.84ct oval cut "medium dark, moderately strong, blue colour" sapphires, totaling 5.27ct combined. There is no secondary color like green or purple to these beauties - they are a vivid, glowing blue and they sparkle like stars! Their clarity is graded as 'eye clean', with no chips or abrasions obvious to the naked eye. We had only the brooch recently certified - and its Retail Replacement Value came in at a WHOPPING $9,550.00 CAD ($7400 USD). The earrings, which contain 10 sapphires in total (5 per earring), with seemingly matching colour & clarity grades to the brooch, would presumably add another $1500 to that value had we included them to be appraised also.
Both the brooch and earrings contain diamonds, with the brooch appraisal details as follows: 38 bead-set single cut diamonds, measuring 1.80mm - 1.40mm x 0.96mm (depth est), with an approximate total diamond weight of 0.57ct. Their clarity grades eye-clean Si1 to I1, with white G-H color with fair cutting. The brooch weighs 9.70g, measuring approximately 1.70 inches long by 1 inch at its widest. Again, the accompanying earrings additionally hold 6 diamonds each (12 in total) with their clarity/color details matching those of the brooch. They measure about 12-13mm in length each.
While the brooch (which has a safety chain & pin attached as seen in the pictures) is originally designed to be worn as such, you can wear the brooch as a pendant on a chain. It would take a jeweler just a few moments to easily remove the safety chain & pin, or they could attach a convertible bale to the brooch that the safety chain could pin to, while you wear it as a necklace. It makes both a glorious brooch and pendant!
Please note the chain shown in picture 4 & 5 is just for demonstration purposes to show the brooch as a 'pendant' and is not included with your purchase of this fine set.
Lastly, the brooch is hallmarked both '585' for the 14kt gold, and with an 'S' in a diamond shaped cartouche (like Superman!). We've researched these hallmarks and they appear to belong to jewelry made in Sheffield, England in either the year 1935 or 1960. We cannot determine which of these it may be, as there are no further accompanying hallmarks that we can locate. The 'S' is a smaller 's', which matches the 1935 hallmark, however, stylistically, the set appears to be more 1950-1960's. Additionally, the stud backs of the earrings are marked 14kt, meaning the stud backs themselves aren't likely original to the set, as British hallmarking uses the '585' purity stamp, not '14k'.
