What an absolutely gorgeous ring! Piercing green meets sparkling white in this fantastic vintage emerald and diamond cocktail ring. Circa est. 1980-1990, there is so much to love about this beautiful piece - and pictures truly don't do it justice with so much fire power! The central emerald is a pristine-clean pear-cut gem measuring approximately 9 x 5mm (estimated within setting), and we believe its carat weight likely falls between 0.75ct to 0.90ct. Without removing the gem we can't give an exact weight, but based on its approximate measurements, that's the range it falls within. Let's talk about its color and clarity for a more though: ummm WOW! Anyone who knows emeralds knows that even the finest of these Royal gems comes with inclusions, often visible to the naked eye. Grading emeralds is quite different than grading other gems that naturally tend to be clean. So when a 'clean' emerald comes along, with beautiful color, often its authenticity is challenged as one could do with this beauty. However, she 'checks out' under magnification with just enough internal birthmarks to authenticate her natural status! Her color: bright, vibrant bluish-green, with no brown or gray undertones, evenly saturated throughout and just glowing within the 14kt yellow gold setting.
Not only is the emerald fabulous in this ring, but the complimentary diamonds showcased throughout are just as wonderful. Holding 3 marquise-cuts, 2 round brilliants and 19 square-cut diamonds, the quality of the gems in this ring are marvelous. The square-cuts, often referred to as 'carre cut' are rare in vintage pieces, and thus exciting to find. Under magnification, we're hard-pressed to locate any obvious inclusions in any of the diamonds but for one, which appears to be a replacement diamond (one of the 'carre' cuts is more of a tiny 'princess' cut). We've contemplated having our jeweler replace that one diamond, however, channel-set diamonds are no easy design to work with, and not only will finding a tiny carre-cut diamond to fit prove difficult, we'd rather not compromise the setting or all the other diamonds to replace the one diamond that is well-hidden anyway. All that said, except for the princess diamond, we'd safely assign in the very least Si1 clarity, if not VS1-VS2 for the marquise and round brilliant-cuts, and VVS to VS for the carre-cuts. The color appears to fall within F-G-H across the board within the yellow gold setting, and we estimate the total diamond carat weight to fall around 0.75ct.
The ring is on the larger end, with the shank more oval than round, allowing the size to sit between a US size 8 to 9. There is no evidence of past sizing, which should be possible within a range of 1/2 to 1 1/2 sizes without too much trouble. More is likely possible, but we will ALWAYS get an opinion before saying 'yes' definitely. Please always inquire about sizing before placing your order should you require it. The 14kt yellow gold is UNMARKED but has been tested to confirm its gold content.
Truly a very beautiful and eye-catching ring, we are delighted to share her with you today. Should you wish to add her to your collection, she's ready & waiting!
