Superb! Circa 1910-1915, this stunning 14k white gold & platinum Edwardian rose-cut diamond brooch is decorated from end to end with sparkling little rose-cuts, and centered with a glowing rosy-pink natural, certified unheated sapphire.
Measuring 2 inches from end to end, and approximately 15mm wide, this delicate & feminine pin, while made to be worn as a brooch, could easily be worn vertically from a chain as a pendant. Or, perhaps you could fully convert her into a pendant? That too is all possible as the design is totally flexible in that regard! But for now, let's talk about her beauty!
At its heart is that beautiful natural unheated pink sapphire, round-cut and weighing 1.23ct. The sapphire measures 6.64 x 6.67 x 3.51mm and is incredibly clean for an unheated gem and FULL of fire! You can see from our pictures how much 'flash' she gives us (and we don't use flash!). This certified sapphire was secured by our jeweler, replacing the original broken, though lovely, piece of sky blue glass. As the stone was glass, and the break was apparent, replacing it with a suitable gem was necessary. Pink spoke to us, with the Edwardian period known as 'the beautiful era', which saw diamonds, pastel-colored gems and pearls used as primary stones. This darling baby-rose pink sapphire was everything the brooch needed to come back to life!
Of course, the diamonds didn't need any help! As antique-cut diamonds do, they are little firecrackers, 140 in total from what we can count - there are many - with an average clarity of Si1-I1 and G-H-I color. It's very difficult to gauge the carat weight of the diamonds due to their size and the setting of the brooch, however, per the appraisal, the diamonds total approximately 0.80ct.
Turning the brooch over, the pin clasp is marked 14k, which puts the era towards the end of the Edwardian period, as 14kt wasn't commercially available for use before about 1910. However, the pin has been acid-tested by our gemologist as platinum-topped also, keeping it within the Edwardian period. The clasp functions perfectly for a nicely 'locked' hold. The back of the brooch shows perhaps 1 or 2 very minute solder repairs that were present when we acquired it. Weighing 7 grams, there is no current damage or missing diamonds and the brooch is ready-to-wear!
If you adore decorating your scarves and blouses with beautiful brooches, this absolute stunner will garner much attention! And of course, you can wear her as a pendant if you want to change things up!
