is now SOLDDate-stamped for "Birmingham" 1968, this darling opal & diamond ring is feminine, dainty and oh-so-pretty! Holding a lively natural white crystal opal, along with bright, clean single-cut diamonds, all set in 18kt white & yellow gold, she's sure to bring a smile to your face - without breaking the bank in the process!
A sweet addition to your collection, this charmer will add pops of green & blue, with red and orange bursts of fire. Measuring 8.00 x 6.30mm cabochon, the natural opal is estimated to weight 0.85ct (measured within setting). According to its appraisal, the opal has a 'quite bright, blue-green play of colour in a flashfire pattern...consistent in its brightness and pattern". You'll notice in our pictures how the opal looks more green-blue in some images, and paler in others. That is simply the lighting we used - in person, the green-blue with fiery pops is what you'll see! Being crystal opal, it's a fascinating mix of full on colour but 'transparent', so certain lighting goes right through it. We DO have video of this beauty that you can find on our instagram page "FOREVAGEMS".
Surrounding the opal are 12 larger single-cut diamonds. They measure approximately 1.85mm each, for a total of 0.28cts, with clean Si1 to I1 clarity (no dark, eye visible inclusions) and 'I' color. Quite similar to Edwardian design, the basket setting below the diamonds and opal features lace-like cut outs of 18kt white gold. This white gold design tops 18kt yellow gold, which continues around the shank of the ring, offering a two-tone gold beauty.
Hallmarked on the band are multiple British markings: a Crown, 18, Anchor and an italic 'T'. After researching these hallmarks, we've determined they represent "BIRMINGHAM 1968". There are further markings of what appears to perhaps be "PPLR", though we can't quite say for sure if those are the correct letters due to wear. The number '609' is also marked in the gold, which again, we don't know what the 609 refers to.
Currently the ring is a petite size 5 (inner diameter 15.70mm). Sizing is possible within a range - please let us know if you need sizing before checking out. We have a jeweler who can perform the sizing if you don't have one yourself. The ring weighs 3.90 grams and the gold is strong and in very good condition for wear.
With Christmas just around the corner, and many of us preferring to shop online for our gifts, this perfect little pretty is ideal as a gift to yourself or a loved one. At over half a century old, why not continue its journey into the next half!
