Exceptionally divine! Alexandrite, pink & white diamonds all wrapped up in the perfect design – the temptation to keep this for my treasure box is all too real! Alas, hiding such beauty away from the world would be criminal, so here today for your future jewel collection is this incredible Alexandrite and diamond keepsake.
In our 13+ years at Ruby Lane, of all the thousands of pieces that have graced our shop, only a handful or two have held natural Alexandrite. I can picture just about every piece, not only because of their rarity, but because of their remarkable color-change phenomenon. From green to red, bluish-green to purple, yellowish-brown to pink, Alexandrite is one of our all-time favorite gemstones at forEVAgems.
Noted by the GIA: “Often described by gem aficionados as “emerald by day, ruby by night,” Alexandrite is the very rare color-change variety of the mineral Chrysoberyl. Originally discovered in Russia’s Ural Mountains in the 1830s, it’s now found in Sri Lanka, East Africa, and Brazil, but fine material is exceptionally rare and valuable.”
The stunning Alexandrite in this ring weighs exactly 1.20ct, measuring 7.98 x 5.10 x 4.29mm pear-cut shape. It delights with its lively green to purple color-change, excellent clarity and depth of saturation. Accompanied by an AGL Prestige Gemstone Report, the Alex is noted as having a “strong, 70-80% color-change” as well as having a 'very good' quality of color-change. AGL has listed the origin as East Africa and has stated “no evidence of enhancements/treatments present”. Frustratingly, Alexandrite is very difficult to photograph, and admittedly we've struggled to capture the true range of color-change in this specimen, especially its amazing tealish-green color. Please be sure to view all our pictures for the best 'scope' of the color-change – though in person, no such struggle will exist. It takes just the slightest shift of light for this amazing gem to change from green to purple!
Perfectly framing the Alexandrite are natural fancy pink and white diamonds. The 22 pink diamonds are identifiably pink – no squinting to try and see their color, with their carat weight stamped on the band as 0.15ct. In a halo surrounding the pink diamonds are 30 white round brilliant diamonds, and a further 18+18 diamonds running down the sides of the split-shank design. There are 66 white diamonds in total, weighing 0.47ct, also stamped on the band. A designer 18k white & rose gold mounting by renowned jewelry maker HANA, very few pieces are currently available on the market, however, HANA is known for using only natural fancy colored diamonds in their high-end pieces. Over the years, HANA has offered such exceptional pieces as a yellow and white gold diamond necklace appraised for $233,100, and a fancy colored diamond necklace sold by the experts at Heritage Auctions for $50,000 in 2012.
The combination of finesse, rarity and color in this delectable ring makes it simply exceptional and highly desirable. We've seen a trend over the last 5-7 years of colored gemstone jewelry infiltrating the market, but not all gems are equal. If rare, one-of-a-kind, beautiful pieces are what you desire, don't let this one get away. We won't have another like it for a long time, if ever again.
