18" long and with a pendant drop of 1 3/8" by 1", this superb, festoon style necklace is fashioned from and stamped 14k. Weighing 6.5 grams, that riveting grape vine centerpiece contains 30 natural baroque seed pearls, varying slightly in size but mostly all about 2.3mm.
These beautiful, natural pearls have a lovely lustre and are in top condition, as if never worn. Then there are 6 smaller baroque pearls set in the actual chain which forms a graceful double, festoon-like section before giving way to a single, solid chain that closes securely in a slim oval barrel push clasp.
The gold colour of this necklace is really interesting. While it's simply 14k, it has a deep reddish tinge to it. Really lovely. You'll notice what appears to be a touch of verdigris in a couple of spots on those marvellously etched leaves around the pearls. We have tried to remove a bit of this since we took the photos and it's worked but we don't want to do too much to it for fear of damaging such an old and lovely necklace. We'll leave that to you if you feel it needs to go. We actually find that touch of green adds reality to the leaves, so much so in fact that we thought this was simply green gold added for realism ... and that may well be the case. It certainly doesn't detract from the necklace in any way. The rich patina on the rear of the necklace also just enhances its historic appeal.
All up, this is one delightful and unique Art Nouveau necklace and in our opinions, one of our prettiest and rarest divine finds!
