Brooches from this era often feature a swallow - a lucky bird in English lore - but I have never seen one that also has a SWAN - that noble bird that, by English law, can only belong to the Sovereign. Tests as Silver, fluted edging and charming little design that places it in the late 19th century Aesthetic era, old-style "c" clasp. Weighs 5.3 grams. Measures about 1.25 inches across. You could polish this up a bit more if you like the "bright" look, but I chose to leave some of the original patina. Found in the English town of Hemswell.
