Early Victorian Second Mourning Brooch with Paste Amethysts and Seed PearlsEarly Victorian Second Mourning Brooch with Paste Amethysts and Seed PearlsEarly Victorian Second Mourning Brooch with Paste Amethysts and Seed Pearls

I obtained this from one of my favorite London dealers - early Victorian (around 1840) mourning brooch featuring braided hairwork under rock crystal, surrounded by paste amethysts and tiny natural seed pearls. Old style "c" clasp and a tiny bail if you would like to suspend this piece from a ribbon and wear it about the neck. I believe this piece would qualify as a "Second Mourning" piece - designed to be worn after a lady begins to wear subdued colors (gray, lavender) again. In excellent condition - measures just under 1.25 inches across and 1 inch tall. If you want something a little different, this one's for you.
