I obtained this from one of my favorite London dealers - early Victorian (around 1840) mourning brooch featuring braided hairwork under rock crystal, surrounded by paste amethysts and tiny natural seed pearls. Old style "c" clasp and a tiny bail if you would like to suspend this piece from a ribbon and wear it about the neck. I believe this piece would qualify as a "Second Mourning" piece - designed to be worn after a lady begins to wear subdued colors (gray, lavender) again. In excellent condition - measures just under 1.25 inches across and 1 inch tall. If you want something a little different, this one's for you.
