Found in the English town of Hemswell, here is a rather unusual Victorian Hairwork Mourning brooch, ca. 1870 in an interesting gold filled mount. Closely braided chestnut brown hair rests behind a beveled glass cover. It is mounted in the center of a scalloped gold filled mount that has a lovely chased design on it. Old style "c" clasp works fine. Back is plain and features a bail so that this can also be worn as a pendant. Measures about 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches. Very nice condition. Note: there is no discoloration on the brooch - it is the light reflecting off the camera lense.
