Colorful and chunky! Classic bakelite fruit brooch, circa 1940s. The top bar is hand-carved of butterscotch bakelite with a reddish-brown overdye (sometimes called a "resin wash"), to simulate a wooden log. You often find these fruit brooches with only 4 or 5 pieces of fruit, but this one has the full original complement of 6 peaches. Each peach is carved from semi-translucent butterscotch bakelite, with marbling visible when viewed in the light at certain angles (see photos), and a single cleft carved from the top. The peaches hang from the log on the original celluloid rings. The green plastic leaves are also original. This hard-to-find vintage bakelite brooch is such fun to wear!
Condition is excellent with no wear to note. The log measures approximately 2 inches wide, and the total length is just short of 3 inches. Metal pinback with rollover safety catch opens easily and closes securely.
