Original Signed Grandville French 'Les Fleurs..Rose' Colored Engraving 1867.
This lovely original French engraving is by the renowned caricaturist JJ Grandville from his Les Fleurs Animees series of 1867 published by Garnier Freres, Paris.
Entitled simply 'Rose' (the Queen of garden flowers) it depicts a beautiful Queen seated upon her throne, complete with sceptre and adoring subjects. Her crown is of rose petals and her dress of leaves and thorns edged with tiny rose buds. She is enthroned in a garden beside a large spider's web and is being fawned upon by large green beetles.
Signed in the plate Grandville del and Ch. Geoffroy sc. it is in very good Antique condition, with no tears or creases, but some slight age discoloration lower left margin and a tiny loss to the surface of the paper lower right margin.
Measuring 6 3/4" x 10 3/4" this is an original Engraving from 1867 and NOT a modern reprint.
JJ Grandville was born Jean Ignace Isador Gerard (1803-47) and I have several other wonderful engravings by this great artist in my shop.
