This fine original Victorian engraving is by renowned caricature artist JJ Grandville, from his Les Fleurs Animees series edited and published by Garnier Freres in 1867. It is embellished with hand applied water color.

Entitled 'Immortelle' it is one of the few engravings from this series which does not include a human figure. It depicts the Everlasting flower with a beautifully engraved gold halo hovering above it emitting a golden light.. Below there lies the remains of the flowers and leaves beneath a scythe.. the symbol of Father Time. An enchanting subject.

Measuring 7 1/2" x 11 1/2" it is signed lower left Grandville del, and lower right Ch. Geoffroy sc.

This is an original engraving from 1867 and NOT a modern reprint.

With a small corner crease upper right and age discoloration..mainly upper right it is in good Antique condition. As with all Grandville engravings, the colors are vibrant, crisp and clear.

Known by the pseudonymn Grandville the French caricature artist was born Jean Ignace Isador Gerard (1803-1847).
