I present to you another beautiful original French lithograph from L'Estampe Moderne series issue #5, dated 1897.
By esteemed French painter Antonin Calbet (1860-1944) and entitled 'L'Inconnue' (the Stranger), it features two lovely young naked maidens meeting on the shore of the ocean. Executed in muted pastel tones it is highlighted by the addition of bold ocean blue and vivid scarlet floral hair decorations.
Calbet was regarded as one of the finest painters of the female nude and this is no exception. A very delicate and sensitive piece.
Signed bottom right and bearing the official 'blind stamp' of authenticity (see pic #4), it is printed by Champenois of Paris.
The lithograph comes complete with it's original tissue guard.
Measuring 16" x 12" and with no foxing, creasing or tears, it is in very good Antique condition.
L'Estampe Moderne series consisted of 4 limited edition (1050) lithographs, issued monthly in a cover by Alphonse Mucha between 1897 and 1899. The original price was 3 francs 50 centimes.
Original L'Estampe Moderne Lithographs are now highly sought after by the worlds greatest Art Galleries and Museums and finding them in this condition is becoming increasingly difficult.
