Antique French Advertising Postcard 'Gala Peter Le Lys' c1900.
From the early 20th century comes this lovely artist drawn advertising postcard with an un-divided back.
Advertising Gala Peter chocolate bars it is unsigned but credited to Belgian artist Fernand Toussaint (1873-1955).
All the Gala Peter cards were designed by well known painters of the period, and all were un-signed.
Titled 'Le Lys' (the Lily) it features a lovely Art Nouveau style lady with upswept hair decorated with pink blossom. She is tenderly gazing at a bunch of wild Lilies.
What that has to do with chocolate bars I cannot say, but it was the fashion at that time to use beautiful women with flowers in any type of advertising.
Chocolateur Daniel Peter worked in the Nestle factory at Verve Switzerland and adopted a new formula which he named 'Gala' that changed the way milk chocolate was made forever.
With an un-divided back there are no publisher details..just the slogan..Gala Peter pour croquer le premier chocolats au lait (for the best tasting milk chocolate).
Stamped and franked it is postally used and in very good Antique condition.
This is one of a pair of Gala Peter Art Nouveau Postcards I am offering. See RP404 for the other. They would look stunning matted and framed together.
