Dating to circa 1920 Art Deco era is this unique Sterling backed (marked) Pendant.
In a dainty teardrop shape with a domed glass front this pretty silver framed Pendant has a background fashioned from an iridescent blue Butterfly wing and is reverse painted with a tropical island scene of palm trees and a sail boats.
Measuring 1 1/8" x 3/4" excluding the bale it comes on the original chain (untested and unmarked) which has a very simple original clasp.
Designed by Englishman Thomas Mott in 1922 and exhibited at the Great Empire Exhibition in 1924, the art of painting on Butterfly wings quickly soared to popularity.
With a fine age patina and some tiny dents to the Sterling backing (which do not affect the image) the Vintage condition is good.
