This beautiful original French Lithograph is from the iconic Art Nouveau L'Estampe Moderne series and comes from issue #10 February 1898.
Created and signed in the plate lower right by Belgian artist Auguste Donnay (1862-1921) in 1897..especially for the L'Estampe Moderne series it is entitled 'Artemis'.
Featuring a beautiful young Art Nouveau maiden in the guise of the Greek Goddess Artemis. She was the daughter of the mighty Zeus and twin sister of Apollo and was usually depicted as a huntress carrying a bow and arrows. As the Goddess of the hunt, wild animals and wilderness she wears a pale green gown and is surrounded by beautiful trees.
The colors of this original stone Lithograph are simply exquisite.
From the very limited edition numbered 'Tirage DeLuxe' (Special deluxe edition) of only 150, it is stamped and numbered 68 verso and bears the 'Blind' stamp of authenticity lower right.
Printed by Champenoise, Paris, it measures 21" x 14 3/4" full sheet and the image is 13" x 9".
Printed on beautiful heavy cream paper (for the deluxe Tirage) the Antique condition is extremely good.
L'Estampe Moderne series consisted of 4 limited edition Lithographs issued monthly in a cover by Alphonse Mucha between 1897 and 1899. The original price was 3 Francs 50 Centimes.
