This pretty large Brass and Shell Cameo Pendant dates to the Edwardian era c 1910.
The delicate carved shell cameo is not in the Classical Greek or Roman style, but is a lovely young girl of her time, with a draped gauzy dress revealing her shoulders and wavy hair caught in a bun at the nape of her neck.
Crafted in 3 separate layers with the claw set cameo in a raised brass frame at the top. The second layer set behind the cameo is of a finely tooled brass and it is connected to the third layer (also finely carved brass) by a narrow wall. Measuring 5/8" from back to front and giving a 3D effect.
The bale is original and the entire Pendant measures. 2" x 1/2" without the bale.
There is no fracture or damage to the carved shell cameo and because of its organic nature the top of the cameo sits slightly proud of the oval brass frame..to be expected as shell cameos are never completely symmetrical.
With a lovely patina of age (which will polish up beautifully if that is your preference) the Antique condition is good.
