This gorgeous rare Art Nouveau Lady in purple Stone Lithograph entitled 'Anxiete' is by the iconic Swiss artist Eugene Grasset (1845-1917) and executed in 1896.
Created for the French Estampe Decoratif, it is one of 10 stunning designs issued by Grasset in the series 'Dix Estampes Decoratives'. In the series Grasset expresses different moods through the representation of women and nature. This lithograph represents Anxiety and features a beautiful Art Nouveau maiden with long dark hair, among large Poppies.
The influence of Japanese prints is evident in the wide hatch lines and bold use of a limited color palette.
His beautiful works were full of symbolism, influenced not only by Japanese art, but also the Pre-Raphaelite movement. And his influence on Art Nouveau is immeasurable.
He is singularly responsible for many of the most beautiful and sought after posters of La Belle Epoque. His works are the embodiment of the spirit of Art Nouveau.
Edited by Malherbe, Paris and printed on a cream velin paper, this lovely engraving measures 11" x 7 3/4" full sheet and is signed E G in the plate lower right.
With some gradual age discoloration toward the outer edges of the margins and a tape mark top verso, where the lithograph was tipped into the publication..it is in very good Antique condition.
