Featuring a serious looking young woman in an Edwardian gown and large black feathered hat, this beautiful scarce Antique Etching was printed in France in 1905 by Imp. Chardon Wittmann (1876-1953), and published by the Review de l'Art Ancien et Moderne, Paris.
It is a Portrait of the famous French pianist Mlle Germaine Chene, executed in 1905 by the Master of interpretive etching..engraver and etcher..Charles Waltner and signed and dated in the plate upper left, and is known as 'Portrait de Mlle G...C...'.
Charles Waltner (1846-1925) was professor of etching at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, and after 30 years of etching other peoples works this is only his third original Etching. In fact his name appears so regularly on Etchings as 'after' such famous names as Rembrandt and Rubens..that he humorously titled this original as 'd'Apres Nature' (after Nature).
Issued on water-marked fine cream Velin and with a bold plate mark, it measures 8 1/2" x 11 3/4" full plate, with an image 6" x 8 3/4".
