By the iconic French artist and engraver Louis Auguste Mathieu Le Grand (1863-1951) this beautifully colored and rare late Victorian Engraving features two of the many Ladies of the Night that frequented the Montmartre area of Paris at the time.
Le Grande is recognised as one of France's finest early twentieth century masters of engraving and etching, and like Degas and Lautrec..much of his work featured the seedier side of life..the dancers, prostitutes and drug addicts of Paris.
This pair are dressed in the typical garb worn by the 'Ladies' of the time, as they sit critically observing something.
Printed and published by MM Fortier et Marotte, Paris it was engraved for the 1892 issue of 'Le Cours de Danse Fin de Siecle' (end of the century dance classes)
Measuring 10 1/2" x 8" full sheet and 7 1/2" x 6" for the image, there is some tape residue to the top edge verso, where it has been tipped into a backing sheet.
Signed lower left it is in very good antique condition.
