Original Signed French Lithograph 'Solveig' Limited Edition L'Estampe Moderne 1898.
By Belgian artist Gustave-Max Stevens (1871-1946) is this unique Limited Edition (1050) Art Nouveau French Lithograph entitled 'Solveig' (old Norse name meaning Daughter of the Sun).
Executed in glorious Art Nouveau decorative 'organic' style, it features a young woman in a green Victorian dress sitting in a large throne and contemplating a city scape below.
Designed especially for the L'Estampe Moderne series, and issued in December 1898, it is signed cleverly in the underside of the throne lower right and bears the blind stamp of authenticity bottom right.
Issued by C Masson and H Piazzi, Paris, and printed by the famed Imprimerie Champenois, It measures 16" x 12" and is in very good Antique condition.
L'Estampe Moderne series consisted of 4 Limited Edition lithographs, issued monthly, in a cover by Alphonse Mucha, between 1897 and 1899.
When I began collecting this series more than 20 years ago, it was almost unheard of. Now the Galleries and Museums of the world are collecting the series and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find them, especially in good condition.
